The Midnight Blade Blox Fruits is a Legendary sword purchased from El Admin aboard the Cursed Ship in the Second Sea for 100 Ectoplasm. It features the Portal Opening and Crescent Dash movesets โ both dealing AoE damage with stun and pull mechanics. It is the same sword used by the Cursed Captain (Level 1325 Raid Boss) and one of the best Second Sea swords for melee-focused builds targeting combo extension and gap-closing in PvP.
Key numbers before you farm.

Midnight Blade โ Legendary Second Sea sword purchased from El Admin for 100 Ectoplasm. Portal-themed moves with AoE pull and stun mechanics.
One method โ no quest required, just farm Ectoplasm and buy.
You must be at least Level 1000 to enter the Cursed Ship. The ship is locked below that level โ enemies will not spawn and El Admin will not appear until the level requirement is met.
The Cursed Ship is located near Graveyard Island in the Second Sea. Sail toward the wrecked ship structure visible off the shore. It has a distinctive dark, ghost-ship appearance distinguishing it from other Second Sea islands.
Defeat enemies inside the Cursed Ship to collect Ectoplasm. Ship Deckhand, Ship Engineer, Ship Steward, Ship Officer, and Cursed Captain all drop it. Ship Deckhands are the most numerous โ grind them for fastest Ectoplasm accumulation. Earning 100 Ectoplasm also rewards the "The Ghost" title.
Inside the Cursed Ship, head to the sleeping quarters on the left side. El Admin is in one of those quarters. Interact with him and purchase the Midnight Blade for 100 Ectoplasm โ no Beli cost, Ectoplasm only.
Two portal-themed moves reworked in Update 20.
The user shoots a virtual afterimage of themselves toward the cursor direction, then slashes. On hit, a small AoE domain of quantum energy appears, pulling all enemies within range inward and barraging them with damage for the ability's duration. Stuns Blade users through the entire animation โ but does not damage them. Good range and AoE pull makes this the primary crowd control move.
The user dashes forward, leaving a blue trail behind. On hitting an enemy, nearby enemies are also pulled in before the user spins and creates an AoE explosion โ throwing all pulled enemies forward. High damage, good AoE, strong gap-closer. The blue trail is a visual indicator of the dash hitbox width โ aim directly at targets for full pull effect.
| Move | Key | Mastery Required | Effect | Hits Sea Beasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Portal Opening | Z | 1 | AoE quantum pull + barrage damage | Yes |
| Crescent Dash | X | 150+ | Gap-close dash + AoE explosion + pull | Yes |
How to get maximum value from both moves.
Sword Main: Majority of stat points into Sword for max damage scaling. Hybrid Sword/Melee: Split between Sword and Melee for energy recovery and versatile combos. Avoid splitting across too many stats โ Midnight Blade rewards dedicated sword investment.
Buddha โ AoE size bonus makes Portal Opening hit a wider area. Phoenix โ mobility + healing while landing Crescent Dash. Dough or Light โ high combo potential pairing well with the pull mechanics. Transformation fruits generally pair better than standalone attack fruits.
Electric Claw โ fast stun opener before Portal Opening lands. Godhuman โ damage burst during the AoE domain. Superhuman โ reliable stun chain. Always open with a fighting style stun before using Midnight Blade moves to avoid Instinct counters.
Electric Claw [X] stun โ Portal Opening [Z] while stunned โ Crescent Dash [X] as they recover โ fruit finisher. This sequence prevents Instinct-dodging by landing the stun first and using Midnight Blade as the follow-up rather than the opener.

How it compares to alternatives available at the same progression stage.
| Sword | How to Get | Best For | Instinct Break | Sea Beast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Midnight Blade | 100 Ectoplasm (El Admin) | Combo extension, AoE pull | No | Yes |
| Canvander | Beautiful Pirate drop | Fast combo, X-dash | Yes | No |
| Pole (2nd Form) | Rip_Indra boss | Long range, AoE | Yes | No |
| True Triple Katana | 3 Legendary Swords combined | High damage, all-around | Yes | Yes |
Midnight Blade's main edge over most Second Sea swords is its ability to hit Sea Beasts โ valuable for sea event participation at this level range. Its AoE pull domain is also unique, giving it a niche even when Canvander or Pole outperform it in pure PvP damage. Players who spend time on sea content will get extra utility from Midnight Blade that other Second Sea swords do not provide.
The upgrade is straightforward and meaningfully improves both moves.
Visit the Blacksmith NPC (found in the Second Sea hub area). Upgrade requires materials gathered from Second Sea enemies and chests โ exact materials vary by version but typically include mid-tier crafting components. The upgrade adds +20% damage to both Portal Opening and Crescent Dash.
Yes โ at 100 Ectoplasm cost with no Beli attached, Midnight Blade is essentially free. The +20% upgrade is cheap relative to the sword's total value and keeps it competitive deeper into the Second Sea level range. Upgrade it immediately after purchase before grinding further content.
Ideal player profiles for this sword.
Players who just entered the Second Sea and need a free Legendary sword fast. Melee-focused builds targeting combo extension over raw damage. Sea event grinders who need a sword that can hit Sea Beasts. Players who want the "The Ghost" title as a bonus for reaching 100 Ectoplasm.
Players targeting top-tier PvP at Level 1500+ where instinct-bypassing swords like Canvander or TTK outperform. Players who already have True Triple Katana or Tushita โ Midnight Blade is an interim weapon in that progression, not a permanent endgame choice.
Midnight Blade โ True Triple Katana (combined from 3 Legendary swords) โ Tushita or Yama at 350 mastery โ Cursed Dual Katana (endgame). Midnight Blade sits at the entry level of this chain and is the natural first step for new Second Sea players. Check our Tushita guide for the next upgrade after Midnight Blade.
Midnight Blade has one of the best visual effects of any Second Sea sword โ the blue portal domain and quantum afterimage are visually distinctive. For players who value aesthetic alongside function, it is one of the most satisfying swords to use at this progression stage.
